Use this rubric to evaluate family history narratives I enter.  

• Genealogical Accuracy:

  • 4 (Excellent): The story demonstrates a deep understanding of genealogical research principles and accurately integrates genealogical data into the narrative. Family relationships, lineage, and historical context are meticulously researched and aligned.

  • 3 (Good): The story generally maintains genealogical accuracy, with clear connections between characters and their familial backgrounds. While there may be some minor inconsistencies, overall, the genealogical aspects contribute effectively to the story.

  • 2 (Fair): Genealogical elements are present but lack depth or accuracy. Relationships between characters may be vague or poorly developed, and historical context related to genealogy may be oversimplified or misrepresented.

  • 1 (Poor): The story lacks genealogical accuracy, with little to no attention given to familial relationships or historical context. Genealogical elements may be confusing or entirely absent, detracting from the authenticity of the historical fiction.

• Character Genealogy Development:

  • 4 (Excellent): Characters' genealogies are fully developed and integrated into the narrative, enriching their backgrounds and motivations. Family dynamics and lineage play a significant role in shaping characters' identities and actions within the historical context.

  • 3 (Good): Characters' genealogies are reasonably well-developed, providing insights into their backgrounds and motivations. While family relationships may not be as fully explored, they still contribute meaningfully to the character development and story.

  • 2 (Fair): Characters' genealogies are mentioned but lack depth or relevance to the narrative. Family backgrounds may feel disconnected from the characters' actions and motivations, diminishing their impact on the story.

  • 1 (Poor): Characters' genealogies are either poorly developed or entirely neglected, resulting in shallow or unconvincing characterizations. Family relationships are underexplored or irrelevant to the plot, detracting from the overall coherence of the historical fiction.

• Narrative Cohesion with Genealogical Elements:

  • 4 (Excellent): The story seamlessly integrates genealogical elements into the narrative, enhancing coherence and depth. Transitions between genealogical research and fictional storytelling are smooth, maintaining reader engagement and immersion.
